New York Mets right-hander Max Scherzer is coping with hamstring tightness and mentioned he is not positive whether or not he shall be able to pitch when the common season begins subsequent week.
Scherzer informed reporters that he first felt the problem just a few days in the past and that it flared up whereas getting ready to pitch a simulated recreation Saturday.
He described himself as day-to-day. The Mets open their season Thursday on the Washington Nationals.
Scherzer had been thought of a probable candidate to begin Opening Day after Mets ace Jacob deGrom was sidelined with a stress response in his proper shoulder blade that can preserve him from throwing for as much as 4 weeks earlier than he’s reevaluated.
The 37-year-old Scherzer joined the Mets on a three-year, $130 million contract this offseason.
