Two days after a report alleged that the Washington Commanders withheld ticket income from the NFL, the franchise has responded.
After initially declining to make a public assertion on the problem, the Commanders launched a fiery retort Monday accusing anybody making the allegation of “perjury.”
“There has been absolutely no withholding of ticket revenue at any time by the Commanders,” the assertion reads. “Those revenues are subject to independent audits by multiple parties. Anyone who offered testimony suggesting a withholding of revenue has committed perjury, plain and simple.”
The assertion was supplied by a workforce spokesperson. Shortly after it was launched, Lisa Banks — an lawyer for former Commanders vice chairman of gross sales and customer support Jason Friedman — launched an announcement condemning the perjury accusation.
“The Washington Commanders just released a statement to members of the media. They defamed my client, Jason Friedman, who came forward at the request of the Congressional Oversight Committee and testified truthfully, with evidence,” Banks’ statement reads. “Unfortunately, Mr. Friedman is unable to defend himself publicly due to contractual constraints that prevent him from speaking freely. He would be happy to recount his testimony if Dan Snyder and the Washington Commanders allow him to do so.”
What the Commanders are accused of
The NFL requires groups to offer 40% of ticket income after taxes and charges from every residence recreation to be redistributed to visiting groups. Saturday’s report from A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports cites two sources who declare that no less than one individual supplied U.S. Congress with data that the Commanders did not share the total 40%. Different particulars together with a timeline of the alleged scheme have been unclear from the report.
The Home Committee on Oversight and Reform has been investigating the Commanders amid allegations of sexual harassment involving workforce proprietor Daniel Snyder. It reportedly expanded its investigation into allegations of economic impropriety final week.
In line with the FOS report, the Commanders and the NFL have been made conscious of the allegations in current weeks. The NFL has not publicly addressed the report.
The Commanders have been the subject of multiple NFL investigations along with the continued Congressional inquiry. If true, the alleged monetary impropriety might spell important hassle for Snyder and the franchise.
